Laughman Out at Fairlawn High School
Date: March 24, 2008 07:17PM
Laughman has been asked to step down as the Jets Varsity coach. This makes rooms for Tim Barga to step in who has done a good job with the Varsity girls team the last two years. However, many attribute that good job to having one of the best players in the area. Things will be different on the mens side with there being a lack of size and talent, but hopefully Barga will be able to get the best out of what he has.
On a disappointing note, word has it that Barga has informed the board that he will only take the varsity job if Laughman is the JV coach. Apparently, Barga feels bad that he is taking Laughmans job and wants to keep him on board.First of all, how bad does this make Laughman look if he takes the JV job after getting voted 5-0 from the BOE to be removed. Secondly, what is Barga thinking. The kids did not respect him on the Varsity level so why does Barga think he will do a better job with the reserves? Laughman had his chance and did not come through. He needs to move on and let "fresh" coaching talent come in.
There have been rumors of a former SCL standout in the county wanting to coach at Fairlawn. Hopefully, "small town politics" do not get in the way of them making the right choice rather than the ill-logical choice!
